The oldest part of Glasgow is concentrated around Glasgow Cathedral, to the east of the modern Glasgow city centre. This stunning medieval landmark was built in 1136 on religious ground in Glasgow and has remained Glasgow's most impressive and important church ever since. At the end of the 12th century, Glasgow Cathedral was actually destroyed by fire and was rebuilt shortly afterwards. Over the years, Glasgow Cathedral has undergone much renovation and restoration, and is remarkably well preserved. Now managed by Historic Scotland, attractions at Glasgow Cathedral include Gothic architecture, a wooden roof with timber dating back to the 14th century, four stained-glass panels depicting the apostles, and a lower church area, housing the shrine of Saint Mungo. Glasgow Cathedral is within easy walking distance from Glasgow's Buchanan Street train station.

Glasgow's Queen's Cross Church is the only one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's church designs to be actually built and is now the headquarters of the Glasgow CRM Society. Attractions at Glasgow's Queen's Cross Church include spectacular stained-glass windows, relief carving, a church information centre, a gift shop, and a small display about this important Glasgow church.

St. Andrew's Cathedral, in the centre of Glasgow, was built in 1817 by James Gillespie Graham and is a landmark Roman Catholic church in this area of Glasgow. This stunning, Gothic-style church is full of interesting features, including an important statue of St. Andrew. Glasgow's St. Andrew's Cathedral was originally classed as a church, but later gained the title of cathedral after considerable renovation. St. Andrew's Cathedral is close to Glasgow's St. Enoch train station.

Situated in the heart of Glasgow city centre on Buchanan Street, St. George's Tron Church was built in the early 1800s. Glasgow's St. George's Tron Church was originally designed by William Stark and features a strong baroque-influence. Attractions at Glasgow's St. George's Tron Church include a tall tower, tremendous attention to detail and many wonderful carvings. St. George's Tron Church is close to Glasgow's Buchanan Street train station.

Paisley Abbey is situated close to central Glasgow, in the Renfrewshire area of Glasgow. This imposing abbey is the main attraction in the town of Paisley and was founded in the mid-12th century. Paisley Abbey is one of the most historic churches in this area of Glasgow and has undergone much restoration work over the years. Attractions at Paisley Abbey include the Barochan Cross, which is over 900 years old.

Built in Glasgow in the mid-19th century, St. Vincent Street Free Church can be found in the heart of Glasgow city centre. This spectacular church was designed by the famous architect Alexander Thomson and holds regular services, where all are welcome. Attractions at Glasgow's St. Vincent Street Free Church include temple-like features, a vast interior, and detailed architecture. St. Vincent Street Free Church is easy to reach from Glasgow's Buchanan Street train station.

The Glasgow Cathedral of St. Luke, in the West End of Glasgow, was built in the late 19th century for the Glasgow United Presbyterians. Previously known as Belhaven Church, Glasgow's Cathedral of St. Luke is an impressive Gothic-style church with many interesting features. Attraction's at Glasgow's Cathedral of St. Luke include a large pipe organ, beautiful stained-glass windows, carvings and wonderful architecture.

Glasgow's Govan Old Parish Church is situated on the south side of Glasgow and was designed by Robert Rowan Anderson in 1833. The Govan Old Parish Church, also known at St. Constantine's Church, took almost 50 years to build and has many interesting attractions, including large, carved stones dating back to medieval Glasgow in the 9th century.
